A bunad is a traditional Norwegian costume, typically of rural origin. Bunads are local to Norway's traditional districts, and the result both of traditional evolution and organized efforts to discover and modernize traditional designs. The designs are typically elaborate, with embroidery, scarves, shawls and hand-made silver or gold jewelry. There are bunads both for men and women, though women's bunads are more diverse and popular.

We have created a "generic" Norwegian costume - not particular to any region of Norway.

Initially, we designed a Norwegian doll dress that would be washable and durable enough for a child to use. It was very popular and soon we were getting requests for a matching girl's dress. Not long after, there were numerous requests for costumes for boys, so we acquired a pattern from Norway and adapted it to match the girls' dresses. The boys and girls outfits have become popular attire for holiday and family pictures.

Norwegian Costume Price List:

The girl and doll Norwegian dresses are made of a cotton/polyester blend. The white dress top has a rounded collar, short sleeves and a lined bodice. The black gathered skirt is also of cotton/polyester blend and an embroidered cotton blend apron is attached. There is a zipper in the back. The red plaid vest is separate and is completely lined. The pewter clip closures in the front of the vest are imported from Norway.

The boy's costume includes a long sleeved shirt of authentic Norwegian design with stand up collar and front velcro closure. A pewter clasp imported from Norway is attached at the neck opening. The black knickers have an elastic waist and are designed to fit below the knee. An embroidered braid trims the band on the lower part of the knickers. A red plaid vest completes the outfit. It is also completely lined and has pewter clasps imported from Norway.

The doll costume is constructed so children can play easily. There are hook and loop tape closures in the back of the dress for ease in getting on and off. The red plaid vest is separate (included with the costume).

When ordering the childrens' costumes, please include the following measurements, so we can determine the closest pattern size when filling the order:
1) Length from natural waist to below the knee
2) Length from back of neck to natural waist (in center of back)
